Blindecenter Bredegaard offers unique employment opportunities in the workshop. Bredegaard’s workshop offers unique employment opportunities that make it possible for the user to make products of an exceptionally high standard.
Success in life is important for everybody. Individuals with sight-and hearing impairments and developmental challenges need cohesion in their lives: at work, at home and during leisure time.
By gaining control over daily routines, the user achieves a balance that improves the ability to control his or her life as a whole. It can, however, be difficult for the developmentally challenged with a sight or sight-and-hearing impairment to build a structure in his or her life. Every staff member at Bredegaard has the expertise needed to help the individual user overcome the many obstacles faced in everyday life. All users will face individual challenges that -when overcome- can result in personal satisfaction, regardless of the individual’s physical or mental state. The workshop offers a high standard of sight-compensating aids and protective screening suitable for an environment adapted to the visually impaired.
The workshop is divided into five units: metals, wood, assembly and packaging, textiles and music. The user is offered a chance to work with industrial machines, hand tools and may develop his or her musical skills in a studio and by participating in music festivals. Bredegaard strengthens the user’s possibilities of becoming independent and able to attend to everyday needs. This is achieved through individual training and counseling by an inter-departmental collaboration among occupational therapists, mobility instructors and special needs teachers. In all departments at Bredegaard, the user will find a structure that quickly becomes familiar. The personnel make sure that all developmental challenges, assistance in learning to care for oneself, and social situations occur in a secure environment. The physical surroundings have been created in a way that enables the user, whether alone or with a companion, to move about with a sense of security and the feeling of being at home at Bredegaard and its immediate surroundings. The personnel are trained to create and maintain a framework that compensates for visual impairments and physical disabilities. Bredegaard’s personnel consists of a specially trained staff of special needs teachers, mobility instructors, occupational therapists and workshop assistants.
